Pale Refined Extract (PRE) is a concentrated liquid derived from dried pyrethrum flowers (Chrysanthemum cinerariafolium). With 50% w/w pyrethrins, it is one of the most potent naturally derived insecticidal active ingredients available and is used by formulators worldwide across household, agricultural, animal health, and public health applications.
Key advantages:
- Rapid knockdown — attacks insect nervous systems on contact and flushes pests from harbourage sites.
- Photo-degradable — breaks down quickly under UV light, leaving no persistent residues and minimising pre-harvest intervals.
- Broad-spectrum — effective across flying and crawling pests; suitable for PT 18 and PT 19 biocidal product types.
- Synergist compatible — commonly combined with PBO to enhance efficacy at lower use rates.
- OMRI Listed — approved source material for certified organic formulations.
Typical formulation uses:
- Household aerosols, electric vaporisers, and surface sprays
- Agricultural and horticultural crop protection
- Ectoparasite control for livestock and companion animals
- Food-handling area treatments
- Public health / vector control (mosquito fogging, ULV, residual sprays)
- Certified organic product development
